Has anyone set up their computer as a PVR with DIRECTV?

I was just wondering if anyone had done this, and if so what kind of equipment did you use (ie. IR blaster, serial connection, video cards). Thanks

Unfortunately, you can’t get a tuner card that directly supports DirecTV. So the only way to do this is to take the output of your existing DirecTV receiver and plug that into a video capture card (most have s-video inputs). There are a number of software packages with DVR support that can handle recording, IR blasting, etc. I’m using Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition (MCE) and have been pretty happy with it, though I know that you can also use Meedio, BeyondTV, and others. The Green Button is the best source for info on MCE; the AVS Forums are good for general A/V stuff.
