Does tivo work with directv?

I'm planning to buy a tivo for someone's birthday this month. She's got regular directv (no HD channels). Which Tivo product is compatible with directv? How much for the box? how much for the subscription? I live in San Mateo, CA....if location matters. When does the series 3 come out?

    Right now, the only DirecTV compatible TiVo being sold new is the Series 2 DT, but with satellite it will only be single tuner.
    It is also SD only. I think they sell for $99 or so, and the subscription fee is $12.95/month, with slight discounts for prepay.

    The Series 3 antenna/cable HD TiVo came out fall 2006.

    A new DirecTV HD TiVo is slated for launch fall 2009.
